  1. Thank you for following this treatment. It really means a lot to me, as the personal journey for myself has been simply amazing.

I'm currently on the fourth month of a six month treatment, so I've got about 10 weeks left, assuming that everything goes well.

Before you're allowed to take Accutane, there's a few hoops you have to jump to prove you're serious about the treatment and it's dangerous effects. Monthly blood tests (for all genders) and pregnancy tests (for women) is mandatory, and being on birth control for the duration of the treatment is also mandatory. The dermatologist mentions all of the major side effects, and the pamphlet included with the medication also includes all of the safety risks.

As for side effects, my whole body felt dry.. not just my skin. My lips have been dry for the entire treatment, my nose has been dry (which can result in nosebleeds), my eyes have been very dry, and nearly every part of my body has started to peel now that I'm further into the treatment. I also feel thirsty often, and at times, I'm more tired than usual.

  2. Hi :)

I have also read your blog post on February 22nd and this post. I have 2 days left on my first month of treatment and i have had TERRIBLE break outs the past 2 weeks but your post has encouraged me to persevere. The only thing is, i have a bad habit of squeezing every pimple! and i'm getting scabs and scars from it but i cant bare not squeezing them. I even pick the scabs. I'm so worried about the scars i'll have, Even when my skin is clear it'll still look ugly from remaining scars. I am also struggling to deal with the dry skin. Its uncomfortable and doesn't look nice, especially when i wear makeup.

    1. Well, the Accutane doesn't treat scarring, so try not to pick! I know it's difficult, but it's really the best thing for your face. Scarring is hard to get rid of and is also hard to cover up with makeup.

The first month of accutane is the worst, and you will break out in your first month. I felt horrible two or three weeks in because my face was getting worse, but it cleared up shortly after, and it will for you too. :)

It's best not to wear make up on the treatment, I think. In my opinion, it'll make things dryer, but I don't wear make up on a regular basis either so I'm not the best person to give an opinion on that. Just take care to moisturize your face a lot. The more you wash and scrub your face, the dryer it'll be. Try to gently wash your face, and avoid scrubbing and picking at it. I have some videos of my accutane treatment by the week if you'd like me to link to that.
